Using archival footage of primarily family origin, the film begins with the testimonies of Austrian children sent to Portugal in the post-war period. The film constitutes a reflection on children in situations of conflict and post-conflict, and on the power of the child's gaze in revealing access to realities overshadowed by official narratives. Starting from a small episode of grand History, "Journey to the Sun" establishes unexpected and multiple resonances with the present, in a Europe increasingly ravaged by migratory movements and where the space for the Other seems to be inexorably shrinking.
