Um Quarto na Cidade

In 1955, the port city of Nantes is affected by a general strike. François, a striking worker, rents a room from Madame Langlois. Violette, his girlfriend, wants to marry him, but François, uncertain of her feelings, refuses. One day, François is approached by Edith, a dissatisfied wife who prostitutes herself, more out of revenge than necessity. The two spend the night together and fall in love. Another "in song" film by Demy, this time set in a world dominated by tragedy and cruelty.
