In 1798, a wild boy was found on the outskirts of the town of Aveyron in France. Diagnosed with mental deficiency, he is committed to an asylum. A young doctor called Jean Itard is convinced that the boy has normal mental capacity, but that his development has been hampered by his lack of contact with society. So Itard takes the boy home and begins an arduous educational endeavour over several years.
