Always Near You is the third film by Uberto Pasolini, a demanding surname for a director who is actually a second cousin of Pier Paolo Pasolini and a nephew of Luchino Visconti. A simple and eloquent portrait of life's cruelty, it was one of the best discoveries of the 77th Venice Film Festival.
Loosely inspired by a true story, Always Near You presents John, played by British actor James Norton, a young single father who earns a living as a window cleaner in Belfast and who has dedicated his life to raising his son Michael, after the child's mother left them shortly after birth. When John discovers he only has months to live due to an illness, he embarks on a journey to find the perfect family who can take in Michael, determined to protect him from the terrible reality of the situation. Telling death through life is something Uberto Pasolini does with immense grace, transforming each daily gesture into a precious memory.
