A dark winter's night, somewhere in the Portuguese province. An alter house where another working day is beginning for the family that runs it. Father, mother and two daughters, girls who entertain and seduce the customers, a world of false appearances where dreams of another life will end up being shattered. Because the father, to whom a business deal has gone wrong, will be forced to sacrifice his youngest daughter and so end up destroying his entire family... "Dark Night", João Canijo's latest film, presented in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, is based on a play by Euripides, "Iphigenia in Aulis", transposed here to a sordid world in which everything is for sale.
