At 63 years old, and almost retired, Joaquim finds himself having to comply with the rules of the employment center to be able to receive unemployment benefits. Even though he knows he will never return to active life, Joaquim has to go from company to company asking for stamps to certify that he was there looking for work. On these trips, he reminisces about his life as an emigrant in America where he worked as a taxi driver in New York City and witnessed the various stock market crashes on Wall Street.
