The lives, dreams, and secrets of three women, Lelena (the grandmother), Nayola (the daughter), and Yara (the granddaughter), intersect in two narrative timelines, separated by fourteen years. In the past, Nayola sets out in search of her husband, who disappeared in combat during the Angolan civil war, and becomes involved in an erratic, audacious, and magical quest. In the present, Yara is a young rapper and human rights activist, pursued by the police in the streets of Luanda, which causes great distress to Lelena.
