Four women await the return of their husbands in a village by a lake. To pass the time, they talk about their private lives. The first tells the story of how she and her husband got back together after a separation that involved a lover and a suicide threat. The second speaks of a Parisian romance, a child, and how she ended up marrying the man who courted her. The third reveals how a night trapped in an elevator with her husband saved their marriage. The fourth escapes and flees with a lover while the other three finish their stories.
