"I have the impression of navigating a Walt Disney film, but with Humphrey Bogart. Therefore, in a political film," says a private detective in voice-over who is seeking revenge for the death of her lover, in an imaginary city called Atlantic Cité. The last film appearance of Anna Karina in a Jean-Luc Godard film, Made in USA is a film "beautiful, goofy and explosive," as described by Jonathan Rosenbaum, and a declaration of the director's contradictory feelings about American life, culture, politics, and aesthetics. In an exploration of this love-hate relationship, Godard creates a noir film composed of almost surrealist collages, vibrant with pop art colors and influences, in an exuberant explosion that marked cinema in the 1960s.
