Algiers, 1938. Meursault, a man in his thirties, a modest office worker, attends his mother's funeral without showing any emotion. The next day, he begins a relationship with Marie, a former work colleague, and resumes the usual course of his daily life. However, this apparent normality is disturbed by the presence of neighbour Raymond Sintès, who drags him into shady affairs, leading inexorably to a tragic event on a beach in the merciless sun. The Stranger is the film adaptation of the novel by Albert Camus (© Editions Gallimard 1942), one of the most emblematic masterpieces of 20th century literature, published in Portugal by Livros do Brasil.
