Life is a constant struggle for Pansy. Plagued by physical and emotional pain, her relationship with the world manifests itself through anger and confrontation: she argues with her family, her doctor, the girl at the supermarket checkout... The only person who understands her is Chantelle, her younger sister, a single mum with a more relaxed life, welcomed by the warmth of her daughters and the clients at her salon. This generous film, from a master of drama, takes us to the depths of family ties, of duty, and of one of the greatest mysteries of the human condition: the fact that, even after lives marked by pain and adversity, we still find ways to love those we call family.

The director, Mike Leigh, born in 1957 in the United Kingdom, is one of the most renowned British filmmakers of our time.
He is known for starting his films without a script, developing them from conversations with the actors, improvising and thus creating characters. His work focuses on ordinary people, their difficulties and determination. An award-winner at emblematic festivals on the international circuit, Leigh won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival for his first film, Bleak Moments, in 1971, followed by the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 for Secrets and Lies, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2004 for Vera Drake.
