Daniel and Daniela tells the story of a father taking his daughter on a journey to his origins. Amidst surprises and unforeseen events, they travel through Cape Verde, São Tomé, and Guinea-Bissau, both guided by a desire to see, know, and converse. Between laughter, songs, and books, everything they encounter along the way serves as a pretext for another story that intertwines past and present, linking Nubians, Carthaginians, and Egyptians, slavery and colonialism, racism and prejudice. Everything becomes material for another lesson in Philosophy, a reflection on the History of Africa, or the challenges of development. Daniel, 83 years old, wants to leave his 12-year-old daughter Daniela with knowledge and critical thinking, preparing her for the future with a heart full of hope and freedom. After all, in Daniel's own words: "the greatest investment is human."
