Children Seeking a Mother

In search of her missing son Takeo, Aki Yamamoto follows clues found in a newspaper column that lead her to an orphanage in Nagano. There she meets Toshio, a young orphan who has run away from home. Despite initially planning to leave after failing to find her son, Aki decides to stay on as his carer. With her caring and affectionate presence, Toshio is eventually reunited with his mother. As time goes by, Aki witnesses other children longing for their absent parents, including Masako and Koichi. At the same time, Misako, daughter of the orphanage director, struggles between love and duty before leaving home to marry her fiancé.
