Captivity is a condition of confinement, in space and in time. The captive being is not just and necessarily a prisoner; they also become characteristic of that place, their identity continually projecting onto that space. In turn, the space of captivity itself is not inert; it is characterized by those contained within it; it is shaped by that experience.
