In 1968, Antoine Doinel is discharged from the army for misconduct and looks for work in Paris. He becomes a night watchman, a television technician, a dispatcher and also a private detective for a company, tasked with discreetly monitoring its staff and activities. At the same time, Antoine is in love and unable to choose between a young violinist and a married woman.
