While filming the winter landscapes of the plains and villages of Ain, where the Saint John Vianney lived, Jacques Demy attempted to understand this defender of community spirituality and his crises of faith. The landscapes of Franche-Comté and the austere faces of its inhabitants illustrate the severity of the words and sermons of the Cure of Ars, received negatively by his parishioners.
